We are experiencing the second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic in India, and the nation’s biggest ever vaccination drive is ongoing. While it was initially open to senior citizens and front-line workers, Indian citizens above 18 years of age can now get the Covid vaccine.

Here we have detailed the steps of what steps you need to follow to get yourself registered.

How to register for the COVID-19 Vaccine via the CoWIN platform?

To make the registration process easy, the government of India has set up an online platform called CoWin which you can use to register yourself. The self-service platform allows you to choose the type of vaccine, center, and pick the time slot as per your convenience.

There are two ways to do so:

Via the Aarogya Setu app

If you have an Android or iOS device, you can install the Aarogya Setu app on your device to access the CoWIN portal.

In the Aarogya Setu app, click on the Vaccination tab and initiate the process by registering your mobile number.

After that, you’ll have to provide details such as your Name, Age, ID Proof, etc. If you don’t have an Aadhaar card, the following ID proofs are also accepted:

  • Driver’s License
  • PAN Card
  • Passport
  • Pension Passbook
  • NPR Smart Card
  • Voter Card

Next, you can schedule the vaccination appointment at the nearby center. You can cancel/reschedule the appointments if you want for both the first and second COVID-19 vaccine doses. It’s important to note that each center has specified the minimum age limit for the people mentioned online.

Via Co-WIN online portal

Alternatively, you can apply for the COVID-19 vaccination via the CO-WIN online website as well. Here, click on Register/Sign In Yourself, after which you will have to register your mobile number and provide all the information as above.

On the CoWIN platform, you can check out the availability details of a center without the registration process by entering an area pin code.

Who can get the COVID-19 vaccine?

As of now, over 15 crore vaccine doses have been administered. Initially, the drive was limited to medical professionals and frontline workers and later extended to people above 45.

The government is now allowing citizens aged 18 years and above to apply for vaccination. An individual applying through CoWIN can add three additional individuals provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Also, people aged between 18 and 44 can only apply online, whereas people aged 45 and above can take advantage of the limited walk-in slots available at the centers.

What’s the cost of COVID-19 Vaccination?

As mentioned in the FAQ, there is no registration cost associated with the vaccine registration through the Co-WIN platform.

However, there are different guidelines available for government and private-led centers. Currently, government hospitals provide free vaccination to people 45 years and above, while private hospitals are charging INR 250 for the same.

From May 01, 2021, government-led vaccines will remain free for people 45 years and above. For people between 18 and 44 years, new payment guidelines will be issued. Any fee applicable will be displayed at the time of online registration.
