Probably the biggest announcement in the gaming community came from Valve. The company introduced an upcoming gaming console, Steam Deck, which is not really a console, rather a mini PC.

With the reveal of Steam Deck, questions started appearing if the handheld console will be able to play next-gen games. While Steam Deck is loaded in terms of specs, it runs on SteamOS, which could mean a minor hurdle for some games. The Linux-based SteamOS will prevent anti-cheat software in many online multiplayer games to boot up. Furthermore, it appeared that Steam Deck wouldn’t run the hottest games on Steam – Apex Legends, Destiny 2, Rainbow Six Seige.

However, it seems like Apex Legends will run on Steam Deck. The news comes via @alphaINTEL over on Twitter. The post reads, “The entire Steam catalog is available to people who have this device. We haven’t really found something we could throw at this device that it couldn’t handle.”

SteamOS & Anti-cheat softwares

Furthermore, Valve claims that the Steam Deck can handle the entire Steam library. Meanwhile, Valve has stated on the official Steam Deck website that the company is working to improve Proton’s game compatibility and support for anti-cheat software on online multiplayer games. For the uninitiated, Proton is a compatibility layer added by Valve to SteamOS to bypass the need for windows games to be ported to Linux.

It seems like Valve has managed to make it work, and if so, then with the launch of the handheld console, users would be able to enjoy online multiplayer games without any hindrance. Furthermore, Valve has confirmed that Steam Deck can efficiently run many AAA titles.

Packed with an AMD Zen 2 APU, along with a quad-core Zen 2 CPU and 8 RDNA CUs, and boasting a 16 GB RAM, the handheld console is looking to give fierce competition to many budget gaming PCs and Gaming Laptops when it launches later this year in December.
