Yesterday, Xiaomi took everyone by surprise and announced that it would be unveiling MIUI 12 on April 27 in an online event.
Before the event, Xiaomi appears to have decided to tease some of the MIUI 12 big features. Previously, it revealed that MIUI 12’s Dark Mode 2.0 will bring changes throughout the device via new additions such as wallpaper dimming, changes to the font, and more.
Now, Xiaomi has teased another feature in MIUI 12 through a Weibo post. Seemingly, users can expect a significant number of changes in Xioami’s Always-On Display (AOD).
AOD is an AMOLED screen-exclusive feature that lights up portions of your screen, even when the smartphone is locked. It offers users a glance at the time, date, relevant notifications, and other tidbits, without having to touch the smartphone.
According to Xiaomi’s post, the AOD in MIUI 12 will support MAML format, i.e., developers will be able to add non-linear animations based on the weather, time, and even random presentations.
Moreover, MIUI 12 Always-On Display will include over 1000 animations out of the box. Other than that, users can expect new AOD stickers featuring Mi Bunny, PUBG Mobile, Kings of Glory, and more.

Furthermore, there will now be toggles for hiding particular elements on the AOD, such as app icons, and battery indicator.
Since the changes are exclusive to Always-on Display, bear in mind that the MIUI 12 feature will only land on AOD supported devices, including Redmi K30 series, K20 series, Mi Note 10, Mi 9, and a few more.
